Meet Ronda & Brian Hooks of Help me Ronda Estate Sales in Park Cities

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronda & Brian Hooks.

Ronda & Brian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I went to estate sales and garage sales almost every weekend with my parents as I was growing up. My Mother started the first antique mall in Dallas and I helped run it. I took a 16 week appraisal course and after that I decided to start an estate sales company! My husband, Brian, calls what we do managed chaos because it is literally like moving every weekend! Sometimes we are selling to 100 people in a house at one time. We have sold everything from toothbrushes to cars, motorcycles, horses, guns and much much more. We have a huge following with a lot of the same faces we have seen every weekend for over 20 yrs.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s challenging dealing with the various emotions of clients during this time in their life, but were good at it, by being flexible, patient and many times creative. For ex., this past weekend client had their utilities turned off too early and we had to rent a generator from Home Depot to get lights and air. And, Recently, we were running around was spray the whole sale because all of the nests that had developed due to home being abandoned for so long.

Most clients don’t realize they need our services until there is a divorce, bankruptcy, death, inheritance, sale of home, etc.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
There really is no book or manual on what we do, so it comes down to communication, listening to our client’s needs, then tailoring our services to meet their needs. One client may need logistical help w moving their storage units over to add to sale, another may need their grandmothers antique doll collection appraised, one may need a city trash dumpster filled up before we can even get to the good stuff, another may need a source to get their oriental rugs cleaned and furniture touched up or repaired. Our mother routinely polish silver, wash china etc. We do it all while wearing different hats.

We specialize in non-specialization, again managing the chaos, because every sale is different. Sometimes there are 100 of pieces of clothing, tools, books, records etc to not only organize and display but to price. Brian constantly researches all categories of antiques and collectibles so he can quickly spot the top valuable/rare items that may need to be more closely evaluated. This may include vintage Lionel train sets, military memorabilia, old toys, books, record albums, fishing lures, signed art etc.

We are known for having the friendliest energetic knowledgeable and helpful crews in the business. All of us will help you carry items to your car, or delivered if needed.

We differentiate by transforming a home that resembles hurricane Katrina in many cases into an antique or furniture showroom floor by the beginning of the sale, then leaving it in broom clean condition for the new owners or showing of the home for sale.

What were you like growing up?
Active, social, energetic, and friendly.
